Have you ever heard the phrase that 'Men who have sex with men' are at a greater risk of being infected with HIV and are thus very vulnerable to it?What exactly does HIV risk or vulnerability mean?When we use the word HIV risk, we are referring to the likelihood or probability a person has to be infected with HIV. Several sexual behaviors such as unprotected anal intercourse can increase the risks of HIV infection. The degree of risk can also change based on the HIV status of the MSM's sexual partner.When we use the word vulnerability, we are referring to factors that are outside MSM's control that reduces their ability to avoid HIV risk. Lack of access to proper and accurate information on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, lack of access to HIV prevention services such as condoms or PrEP, and other factors such as stigma, discrimination, and mental health increase MSM's risks of being infected with HIV.
