Erosion also plays a role in shaping mountains. The constant force of wind, water, and ice wears away at the surface, carving out valleys and ridges and further shaping the landscape of the mountains. The tallest mountain on Earth is Mount Everest, standing at 29,029 feet above sea level. It is part of the Himalayas, which were formed as a result of the collision of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates. Next time you look at a majestic mountain range, remember the powerful geological forces that came together to create such awe-inspiring formations.
