Already in ancient Greece they discovered the principle that would later be called the camera obscura, that if a hole was made in one of the walls of a dark room, light would enter through it and project an image of the world from the outside on the opposite wall when it is presented in reverse. The Greeks did not know how to save the image for re-viewing.It wasn't until 1816 that Niceper Niepce, a French inventor, managed to preserve the image obtained from the camera obscura. the first photograph that was photographed was in black and white. The first surviving photograph in history is a view from a window in Le Gra. Color photography became commercially possible in the early 20th century.Today cameras are often equipped with a digital sensor, so the image can be stored in any digital medium.
