Shammah was one of the brave men who walked with David. And in the second book of Samuel, in the twenty-third chapter, verses eleven and twelve, the following feat is recounted:And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines. But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory. This story contains some very interesting lessons that demonstrate just how brave Sama was.As it says in the sacred text, while the people were fleeing, Sama confronted the Philistines to defend a piece of land full of lentils. And God gave him victory.Sama's attitude is very interesting because, as well as demonstrating how brave he was, it also shows that he didn't accept losing God's blessing to his enemies.Of course, Sama lived in the Old Testament and therefore fought with swords, spears and shields against real people. We, however, live under the New Covenant, so we don't fight people. As the apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians, chapter six, verse twelve: ... our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this dark world, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. In other words, today we are fighting against Satan and his demons and our weapons are prayer, faith and the word of God.And just as the Philistines tried to take possession of that field full of lentils, Satan and his demons try to steal what belongs to us.Sama defended that land and didn't let the Philistines take possession of it.We must do the same.So defend your marriage, your family, your job and everything else that God has given you.Don't let Satan steal your blessings.Fight with the spiritual weapons at your disposal and God will give you victory.
