Did you know that the first computer programmer was a woman named Ada Lovelace? In the mid-19th century, she collaborated with Charles Babbage on his Analytical Engine, creating the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine – making her the world's first computer programmer. The ENIAC, the first general-purpose electronic computer, was commissioned by the US Army in 1943. It weighed 30 tons and occupied a space of about 1,800 square feet, using 17,468 vacuum tubes and consuming around 150 kW of electricity. The term bug in computer science originated in 1947 when operators found a moth trapped in one of the relays of the Harvard Mark II computer. This incident led to the debugging process, which refers to finding and fixing errors in computer code. The first computer mouse was invented in 1964 by Douglas Engelbart and was made of wood. It had two wheels at right angles to each other and was initially called an X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System. Today, we carry more computing power in our pockets than the computers that helped send astronauts to the moon. It's fascinating to see how far we've come in just a few decades in the field of technology and computers.
