A once-booming Midwestern city in the heart of Indiana has become a ghost town with more than one in three homes sitting empty. Gary, Indiana - best known as the birthplace of Michael Jackson - is now reportedly home to the highest abandoned home rate in the nation at 31.41 percent, according to analysis from 247WallSt. According to an article in USA Today, in 2019 nearly 20 percent, or roughly 5,700, of the single-family homes in Gary were unoccupied. Crime rates in Gary have improved since the 1990s, but the city is still considered dangerous. Recent efforts to combat crime include high-technology crime centers and community programs like Gary for Life, which have begun to show positive results in reducing violence. The worries of Gary, Indiana went from unsolved crimes, gruesome deaths to...lingering ghost and paranormal encounters starting from the mid 1900's, even reported UFO sightings...hmmmmm.... that leads me to the creepy horror show called Eerie, Indiana canceled before the end of its first season. The show debuted on NBC in 1991, but a final, unseen episode aired on Disney syndication in December of 1993. For NBC the uniqueness of Eerie Indiana proved to be a weakness as they were unsure of how to market the series. The show focused on two young protagonists going on fun and scary adventures, but at the same time Jose Rivera and Karl Schaefer wrote the show for adults. Oh may gosh--Now, I see why everyone left this town. There's something definitely not right about that place...
