There was an old grandpa who loved his grandchildren very much. One day, he called all his grandchildren & said, I want to teach you a lesson about money & financial education. Imagine you have a big jar, he said, holding up an imaginary jar with his hands. This jar represents your income, the money you earn from your job or business.The grandpa then took out a bag of sand and poured it into the jar, filling it up about a third of the way. This sand represents your regular expenses, such as rent or mortgage, utilities, groceries, and other bills you have to pay every month.Next, the grandpa took out a bag of pebbles and poured them into the jar, filling it up to about halfway. These pebbles represent your irregular expenses, such as car repairs, medical bills, or unexpected expenses that may come up from time to time.Finally, the grandpa took out a bag of large rocks and placed them carefully into the jar, filling it up to the top. These rocks represent your savings, your investments, and your long-term financial goals.The grandchildren looked at the jar, amazed at how everything fit so perfectly inside. But grandpa, one of them asked, what happens if we put the rocks in first, then the pebbles and the sand?The grandpa smiled. That's a great question. If we put the rocks in first, there wouldn't be any room for the pebbles and sand. But if we put the sand in first, then the pebbles, & finally the rocks, everything fits perfectly. This is just like managing your finances.
