I blew up a building to express my hatred for the government. I'm Timothy McVeigh, and I caused the Oklahoma City bombing that took the lives of 168 people. As a kid, I was pretty quiet, finding solace in my fascination with guns. Joining the military at 20 seemed like a way out, and I did well, serving honorably in the Gulf War. But even after leaving the service, my anti-government sentiments only grew. I got deeply involved in gun rights rallies, especially shaken by the Waco incident where innocent lives were lost at the hands of the government.I felt compelled to make a statement against governmental tyranny. So, with my Army pals, we hatched a plan to bomb the Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Behind the wheel of a truck, I set the fuse and within minutes, 168 lives were lost, including 19 little ones attending preschool in the building. I was swiftly caught, convicted, and sentenced to death by lethal injection in 2001. Looking back now, even from beyond, I stand by my actions. The government had overstepped, and I believed then, as I do now, that power lies with the people, not the state.
